Exercise and Have Fun - Sounds Great!

Parents:  How would you like to have a few extra hours of free time for early Christmas shopping, a date night or a girls/guys night out?  What if you could have that while knowing your kids are exercising and having fun at the same time?  Sound to good to be true?  Not at all! 

MDC Booster Club is happy to announce that we are sponsoring an open gym at Xtreme Gymnastics & Trampoline in Lees Summit on Saturday, October 29th, 2011 from 7-10pm.  Kids ages 5 to 15 are welcome and the cost is $12.00 per child.  Hope to see you there!

MDC Booster Club Fundraiser - PINK Trashbags!!

Our dance company for the 2011-2012 year is assembled and we are so excited to welcome back old members and greet the new members.  As the season begins, so do our fundraising efforts. This year we are starting with something completely different - PINK trashbags!!  Everyone has black, yellow, or white bags but you can be the first on your block to set out your trash in style.  Not only will you be the envy of your neighbors but you can feel good knowing that part of the proceeds will also go toward breast cancer awareness and research.  They are 39 gallon bags, 25 to a roll and can be purchased for $10 a roll.  They can be ordered through one of the dancers, at the studio or you can email the booster club (mdcboosterclub@gmail.com) to request you order.  The sale will continue through Tuesday, September 27th.....get them while they're hot!

Starpower World Championships July 12-16, 2011

Mindy's Dance Company started arriving in Branson, MO on Sunday, July 10 in preparation for the Starpower World Championships 2011.  The dancers had been spending countless hours at the studio following the recital in preparation for our final dance competition of the 2010-11 season.

Several dancers and their families were able to explore the sites and enjoy some fun in the sun on Monday, July 11.  Some lounged poolside and slid down water slides at Water Waters and others went shopping.  Some had car problems, but as far as we know everyone is here and ready to dance!

TUESDAY

The competition began on Tuesday, July 12.  Our petite took the stage in the power solo competition in the 8 & under division.  Maddie Kerr, age 7, performed a lovely lyrical routine titled Amazing Grace.  She earned 4 3/4 stars.  She received a special award called "Little Dancing Angel" as selected by the panel of judges.  This routine placed 5th overall in the petite power solo competition.



Next, Brie Bowes, age 8, performed a moving lyrical routine titled Miss Invisible.  She earned 4 3/4 stars. 



She also performed a toe tapping tap routine titled Feet Down Fail Me Now.  This routine earned 4 3/4 stars and a First Place Trophy for her division.  This routine placed 7th overall in the petite power solo competition.



Both dancers competed for a chance to participate in the Little Miss Petite Showdown.  Only three dancers were selected from the entire petite power solo participants.  Our petite dancers did a great job dancing with heart and soul!

In the afternoon, Abbey Baker, age 11 began her competition by competing in the junior power solo dvision ages 9-11.  She earned 4 1/2 stars with a graceful routine called Dream On. 

The MDC Booster Club is very proud of our soloist performances.

Tomorrow.... petite small groups....  "Here We Go!"

WEDNESDAY

Company I and Company II reported to the convention center at 10:45 for warm up and final preparations to hair and make up! 

Company II performed a musical theatre routine in a Bushel and a Peck.  The facial expressions were priceless!  Dancers included Brie Bowes, Cora Tyler, Lauren Bennett, Maddie Kerr, Sophia LaSala and Stella Genge.  The routine was choreographed by Mrs. Mindy Kerr.  The routine was awarded 4 3/4 stars.  Earned a First Place Award within its division AND an overall placement of 7th in the petite small group division at the World Championship.


Next, Company I took the stage to perform a jazz routine called Bird Mix.  They shook those tail feathers to the delight of the audience.  Dancers include Alex Maupin, Avery Arnold, Bailey Birchfield, Larissa Mikle, Lydia Cooney and Paige Dernier.  The was routine was choreographed by Mrs. Mindy Kerr.  The routine was awarded 4 1/2 stars. 


After a quick costume change, Company I performed a lovely lyrical routine called Here Comes the Sun.  They earned a special recognition award from the judges called "Brighter Than Sunshine."  Dancers include Alex Maupin, Avery Arnold, Lydia Cooney, Paige Dernier and Sophia LaSala.  The routine was choreographed by Mrs. Chelsie Klein.  It earned 4 1/4 stars.



Company II took the stage again to rock it out in their tap shoes to Boogie Bumper.  Dancers include Brie Bowes, Cora Tyler, Lauren Bennett, Maddie Kerr and Stella Genge.  This routine scored 4 3/4 stars and placed 8th Overall in the petite small group division.



Ending the afternoon, Company II performed one last time in an emotional lyrical performance called Reach.  Dancers include Brie Bowes, Cora Tyler, Lauren Bennett and Maddie Kerr.  This routine scored 4 3/4 stars and placed 3rd Overall in the petite small group division.  It earned $125 SD.  This routine was also selected to compete in the Battle of the Stars on Saturday, July 16th.

 It was a great day for the petite dancers in Company I and II.  We are VERY excited for tomorrow and the fantastic performances of our Company III, Company IV, ALL Company and duo performers!

THURSDAY

Company III arrived at the convention center at 7:30 am.  They performed a jazz routine called Fever.  Dancers include Jaimie Pearce, Maddie Duncan, Mia Tebbe and Taylor Egerstrom.  This routine was choreographed by Mrs. Mindy Kerr.  It earned 4 1/2 stars.

The remaining company arrived at 10:45 to prepare for the all company line production called Latin Mix.  Dancers include Abbey Baker, Alex Maupin, Ashley Breck, Avery Arnold, Bailey Birchfield, Bailey Hamilton, Brie Bowes, Cora Tyler, Emily Breck, Emma Costello, Jaimie pearce, Larissa Mikle, Lauren Bennett, Lydia Cooney, Maddie Duncan, Maddie Kerr, Meg Cunningham, Mia Tebbe, Paige Dernier, Sophia LaSala, Sophia Passantino, Stella Genge and Taylor Egerstrom.  This routine was choreographed by Mrs. Mindy Kerr, Miss Lauren Bobbit and Mrs. Chelsie Klein.  It earned 4 3/4 stars and a First Place in its Division.  It was also selected to perform in the Battle of the Stars.  It placed 2nd Overall in Line Productions ages 9-11 years old.  It earned $300 SD.  Latin Mix was also recognized by the judges with a special Choreography Award for ages 11 and under.  Congratulations to the dancers and instructors.



Company IV performed a sassy jazz routine called Standing There.  Dancers include Abbey Baker, Ashley Breck, Bailey hamilton, Emily Breck, Emma Costello, Meg Cunningham and Sophia Passantino.  This routine was choreographed by Mrs. Mindy Kerr.  It earned 4 1/2 stars.  It placed 2nd in its division.  The first and second place was separated by fractions of a point!  Great job dancers!

Company IV took the stage again and did a rocking tap routine called Black Betty.  Dancers include Abbey Baker, Ashley Breck, Bailey Hamilton, Emily Breck, Meg Cunningham and Sophia Passantino.  This routine was choreographed by Miss Lauren Bobbitt.  This routine earned 4 1/2 stars and First Place in its Division.




Company IV took the stage again to perform a lyrical routine called Runaway.  Dancers include Abbey Baker, Ashley Breck, Bailey Hamilton, Emily Breck and Emma Costello.  This routine was choreographed by Mrs. Chelsie Klein.  This routine earned 4 1/2 stars and First Place in its Division.  This routine was also selected to perform in the Battle of the Stars on Saturday, July 16.

Company III did an expressive performance in a lyrical routine called Where You Are.  Dancers include Jaimie Pearce, Meg Cunningham, Mia Tebbe, Sophia Passantino and Taylor Egerstrom.  This routine was choreographed by Mrs. Chelsie Klein.  This dance earned 4 1/2 stars. 

Cora Tyler and Maddie Kerr, Company II finished the day with a jazz duo called My Boyfriend's Back.  They were sassy and ready to perform their best.  This routine was choreographed by Mrs. Mindy Kerr.  These dancers earned 5 stars and earned a 2nd place overall placing within 3 tenths of a point from first place.  It earned $300 SD.

Prior to awards, there was audience participation.  Several children were picked from the audience for a scavenger hunt.  Our very own Larissa Mikle and Lincoln Tyler were chosen.  They had to find a nail file, a black sock, baby diaper, Mercedes or Porsche Key, red Nike, a $100 bill and an autograph from a Starpower Employee.  Lincoln made it to the final round and was awarded a $25 gift certificate to spend in the Starpower star.  He quickly spent his money on toys and candy.  Later, he went up to the announcer while he was on stage to show his loot.  Lincoln quickly became a part of the ongoing commentary during breaks and awards.

FRIDAY

Company I and II joined forces to perform in the petite large group division routine called Beach Babies.  Dancers include AJ Maupin, Alex Maupin, Avery Arnold, Bailey Birchfield, Braden Cooney, Cora Tyler, Jack LaSala, Larissa Mikle, Lincoln Tyler, Lydia Cooney, Maddie Kerr, Paige Dernier, Sophia LaSala, Stell Genge and Tommy Kerr.  This routine was choreographed by Mrs. Mindy Kerr, Miss Lauren Bobbitt and Mrs. Chelsie Klein.  This routine earned 4 1/2 stars and a 4th place Overall in the Division.  It earned a special judges award called Cowabunga Dudes and Dudettes.  It was also selected to compete in the Battle of the Stars.

Abbey Baker competed in the Top Gun Category for 11 and under.  She learned some tough choreography in less than 10 minutes.  She continued to pass through to the semi-finales before being eliminated.  She did an amazing job strutting her stuff!  She shined on stage.

SATURDAY

Wow!  What a day!  You could feel the excitement and energy at the Convention Center as everyone was preparing to dance in the Battle of the Stars.  Mindy's Dance Center was very excited to be chosen to perform four dances....   Reach, Latin Mix, Runaway and Beach Babies.

The show opened with a fantastic routine of all All Stars.  The All Stars were selected by each studio with students ages 12 and up.  Abbey Baker and Jaimie Pearce represented Mindy's Dance Center with a fabulous performance.  They have spent every evening since Tuesday in rehearsals preparing for the opening act.  Great job dancers!

Prior to the final number, Lincoln Tyler had the pleasure of assisting the announcers in the LIVE performance by discussing the week and explaining the "Victory Cup" category.  Of course, Lincoln called it the Piston Cup!

Here are the results of the Battle of the Stars.....

Reach.  4th Place Overall in the 8 and under Small Group Category

Latin Mix.  2nd Place Overall in the 9-11 Line Production Category and $300 SD.

Runaway.  5th Place Overall in the 12-14 Small Group Category

Beach Babies.  2nd Place Overall in the 8 and under Large Group Category and $300 SD.

It was a long week, but a great one!  Congratulations to the instructors and dancers of Mindy's Dance Center.

Spotlight Dance Cup 2011 (April 15-17)

Mindy's Dance Company competed in their final regional competition at the Overland Park Convention Center in Overland Park, Kansas.

Spotlight Dance Cup adjudicates each routine with a Diamond, Ruby, Emerald or Sapphire Awards.  A competitive 1st place award will be given in each category to the winner with the highest score.  Each dancer in a duo/trio or group will also receive a recognition award. 

"Spotlight Awards" will be given in all Divisions in the following areas: Outstanding Costume, Showmanship, Technical Skill, Choreography, Entertainment and "A Cut Above."

Abbey Baker took the stage on Friday afternoon to compete her junior solo "Dream On."  Her routine was choreographed by Chelsie Klein.  Abbey was awarded a Ruby for her outstanding performance.

Company I and Company II had their chance to sparkle and shine on Saturday.

A combination of Company I and II performed Beach Babies as an Open Large Group Entry in ages 5-6.  Dancers include Avery Arnold, Bailey Birchfield, Lydia Cooney, Braden Cooney, Paige Dernier, Stella Genge, Madelyn Kerr, Tommy Kerr, Sophia LaSala, Jack LaSala, AJ Maupin, Alex Maupin, Larissa Mikle, Cora Tyler and Lincoln Tyler.  The routine was choreographed by Mindy Kerr, Lauren Bobbit and Chelsie Klein.  Beach Babies was awarded a Ruby for a sensational surfing good time!

Company II performed Bushel and a Peck as a Musical Theatre Small Group Entry in ages 7-8.  Dancers include Lauren Bennett, Brie Bowes, Stella Genge, Madelyn Kerr, Sophia LaSala, Cora Tyler and Paige Walker.  The routine was choreographed by Mindy Kerr.  Bushel and a Peck was awarded a Diamond and a First Place Category Award.  It was also awarded a special judges award called "There's No Place Like."  The judge said that these dancers appeared to only be one place this afternoon and that was on the Spotlight Main Stage.

Company I performed Here Comes the Sun as a Lycrical Small Group Entry in ages 5-6.  Dancers include Avery Arnold, Lydia Cooney, Paige Dernier, Sophia LaSala and Alex Maupin.  The routine was choreographed by Chelsie Klein.  Here Comes the Sun was awarded a Ruby.  The girls looked very beautiful in their golden lace costumes!

Company II performed Reach as an Open Small Group Entry in ages 5-6.  Dancers include Lauren Bennett, Brie Bowes, Madelyn Kerr, Cora Tyler and Paige Walker.  The routine was choreographed by Chelsie Klein.  Reach was awarded a Diamond and a First Place Category Award.  It also earned a Sapphire placing Fourth Overall in the Petite Small Group Division.

Company I performed Bird Mix as an Open Small Group Entry in ages 5-6.  Dancers include Avery Arnold, Bailey Birchfield, Lydia Cooney, Paige Dernier, jAlex Maupin and Larissa Mikle.  The routine was choreographed by Mindy Kerr.  Bird Mix was awarded a Ruby.  These dancers know how to shake a tail feather.

Company II finished out Saturday afternoon by performing Boogie Bumper as a Tap Small Group Entry in ages 5-6.  Dancers include Lauren Bennett, Brie Bowes, Stella Genge, Madelyn Kerr, Cora Tyler and Paige Walker.  The routine was choreographed by Lauren Bobbitt.  Boogie Bumper was awarded a Diamond.

Company III and IV arrived bright and early on Palm Sunday to stretch and warm up as a team and get ready to perform on the Main Stage.

Company IV took the stage first performing Runaway as a Contemporary Small Group Entry in age 12.  Dancers include Abbey Baker, Emily Breck, Ashley Breck, Emma Costello and Bailey Hamilton.  The routine was choreographed by Chelsie Klein.  Runaway was awarded a Ruby.

After a quick costume change, Company IV performed Standing There as a Jazz Small Group Entry in age 12.  Dancers include Abbey Baker, Ashley Breck, Emily Breck, Emma Costello, Meg Cunningham, Bailey Hamilton and Sophia Passantino.  The routine was choreographed by Mindy Kerr.  Standing There was awarded a Ruby.

Company III performed a Lyrical Small Group Routine in age 12 called Where You Are.  Dancers include Meg Cunningham, Taylor Egerstrom, Hannah Glover, Sophia Passantino, Jaimie Pearce and Mia Tebbe.  The routine was choreographed by Chelsie Klein.  Where You Are was performed with great emotion and was awarded a Ruby. 

After another quick costume change, Company III performed Fever as an Open Small Group Entry in age 12.  Dancers include Maddie Duncan, Taylor Egerstrom, Hannah Glover, Jaimie Pearce and Mia Tebbe.  The routine was choreographed by Mindy Kerr and Savannah Rowland.  The dancers had great smiles and energy.  Fever was awarded a Ruby.

Finishing out the Junior Small Groups was Company IV performing Black Betty as a Tap Small Group Entry in age 12.  Dancers include Abbey Baker, Ashley Breck, Emily Breck, Meg Cunningham, Bailey Hamilton and Sophia Passantino.  The routine was choreographed by Lauren Bobbit.  The dancers ROCKED the stage and earned an Emerald.

During awards the Petite Dancers were preparing to take the second stage for Solos, Duos and Petite Miss Spotlight.

First up was Madelyn Kerr and Cora Tyler performing in a petite jazz duo called My Boyfriends Back.  The routine was choreographed by Mindy Kerr.  These two dancers performed like broadway divas and were awarded a Diamond and a First Place Category Award for ages 5-6.

Next, was Brie Bowes and Paige Walker performing a fast tapping routine in a petite tap duo called Feet Don't Fail Me Now.  The routine was choreographed by Lauren Bobbit.  These two dancers had clean, sharp sounds and beautiful smiles.  They were awarded a Diamond and a Fourth Place Overall in the Petite Duo/Trio Division.

Miss Madelyn Kerr took the stage as an entry in the Petite Miss Spotlight.  She was poised and eloquent.  She performed a 15 second dance combination highlighting some of her best technical skills.  Way to go Maddie!

After a quick change of outfits, Madelyn Kerr performed Amazing Grace as a lycrical solo in the petite solo division, age 7-8.  This routine was choreographed by Chelsie Klein.  She danced with elegance and grace.  She was awarded a Diamond and a First Place Category Award.  She also placed Sixth Overall in the Petite Solo Division.

Next, Brie Bowes performed Miss Invisible as a lycrical solo in the petite solo division, age 7-8.  This routine was choreographed by Chelsie Klein.  She danced with such emotion and beauty. She was awarded a Diamond.  She also placed Seventh Overall in the Petite Solo Division.

Finally, the entire Company took the Main Stage and performed Latin Mix as a Production Routine.  Company I, II, III and IV danced together as one having a great afternoon and great weekend at the Spotlight Dance Cup 2011.  This routine was choreographed by Mindy Kerr, Lauren Bobbit and Chelsie Klein.  Latin Mix was awarded a Ruby.

The dancers did a great job!  We said goodbye to the Overland Park Convention Center as we close our Regional Competition Season until next year.

Sunday, March 27, 2011 SHOWBIZ TALENT COMPETITION (Day 2)

Day Two: Brought us competitors in petite solos and the Teen & Senior Division!

Our petite solo competitors started off the competition bright and early, again on Sunday morning at 7:00 a.m.

Maddie performed a lyrical routine to "Amazing Grace."  This routine was awarded First Place and 2nd High Point.


Brie performed a lyrical routine to "Miss Invisible."  This routine was awarded First Place and 2nd High Point.



Then, our pre-teens and teens started to take the stage and strut their stuff in small group competition!

Level IV did a tap routine in the tap division called "Black Betty."  This routine was awarded First Place and 2nd High Point.  Dancers in this routine are Abbey, Ashley, Emily, Meg, Bailey H and Sophia P.



Level III performed a jazz routine in the open division called "Fever."  This routine was awarded First Place and 2nd High Point.  Dancers in this routine are Maddie D, Taylor, Hannah, Jaimie and Mia.



Level III performed a lyrical routine in the lyrical division called "Where You Are."  This routine was awarded First Place and 2nd High Point.  Dancers in this routine are Meg, Taylor, Hannah, Sophia P, Jaimie and Mia.


 
Level IV did a lyrical routine in the lyrical extended division called "Runaway."  This routine was awarded First Place and High Point.  Dancers in this routine are Abbey, Ashley, Emily, Emma and Bailey H.


Level IV did a jazz routine in the jazz division called "Standing There."  This routine was awarded First Place and High Point.  Dancers in this routine are Abbey, Ashley, Emily, Emma, Meg, Bailey H and Sophia P.

Saturday, March 26, 2011 SHOWBIZ TALENT COMPETITION (Day One)

The dancers participated in their second regional competition this weekend at the Overland Park Convention Center.  The competition was well attended with well respected studios from Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.

Showbiz scores on an adjudicated point system.  At this competition, there are 3 judges that score each routine up to a possible total of 100 points.  When each judge has competed their task, all 3 scores will be combined to create a total score out of a possible 300 points.  Each routine will receive either a 1st place (270-300 points), 2nd place (260-269 points) or a 3rd place award (255-259 points).

Throughout each regional competition, we heard the emcee announce "Diamond First Place" awards, during the award ceremonies.  A Diamond First Place award is reserved for those routines that receive a total score from the judges of 276 or above.

Our petite duet competitors started off the competition bright and early on Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m.

Brie and Paige W did a tap routine to "Feet Don't Fail Me Now."  This routine was awarded First Place, 2nd High Point and 10th place overall.


Maddie and Cora did a jazz routine to "My Boyfriend's Back."  This routine was awarded First Place, High Point Diamond and 3rd place overall.


Next, Level I and II's had the opportunity to perform their small group routines.

Level II did a tap routine called "Boogie Bumper."  This routine was awarded First Place, High Point Diamond and 6th place overall plus a Choreography Award for Miss Lauren Bobbitt.  Dancers in this routine are Lauren, Brie, Taryn, Stella, Maddie, Cora and Paige W.


Level II performed a lyrical routine called "Reach."  This routine was awarded First Place, 2nd High Point.  Dancers in this routine are Lauren, Brie, Taryn, Maddie, Cora and Paige W.


Level I performed a lyrical routine called "Here Comes The Sun." This routine was awarded First Place and 2nd High Point. Dancers in this routine are Avery, Lydia, Paige D, Sophia and Alex.

Next, the entire MDC Dance Company performed their Line Routine.  This routine was awarded First Place, High Point and 4th Place Overall.  Dancers in this routine are Avery, Abbey, Lauren, Bailey B, Brie, Ashley, Emily, Lydia, Emma, Meg, Taryn, Paige D, Maddie D, Taylor, Stella, Hannah, Bailey H, Maddie K, Sophia, Alex, Larissa, Sophia, Jaimie, Mia, Cora and Paige W.


Finishing out the evening, was Abbey competing in the Junior Solo Division.  She earned a First Place and 8th High Point.


Overall, it was a fantastic day for the Petite and Juniors with the MDC Dance Company.  We appreciate the support from our family, friends and corporate sponsors!  Sleep well, we will see you again tomorrow for DAY TWO!

Dining for Dancers~Help Support MDC Dance Company~We made it to Nationals.
