Pink Trash Bags: Teaching More Than Just Fundraising to Our Dancers

Mindy's Dance Company would like to thank all the friends, family, neighbors and colleagues that purchased trash bags from us this year.  We like selling the pink trash bags just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month (we had blue and white too) because $120 of the proceeds from the bag sales will be sent to an organization that will use it for research or other aid for patients.  Its a terrific opportunity for the dancers to learn that we can always help others while we are earning money for the booster club.

If you missed out on this sale but still need some bags, please contact your favorite MDC dancer and let them know what kind you need and how many.  You can also email the booster club at mdcboosterclub@gmail.com to request additional bags.

Thank you for your continued support!

Who Wants to Save Money on Groceries?!

We do!  We do!  Mindy's Dance Company is continuing its fundraising efforts with HyVee Coupon Books.  At $5 each they are a terrific value and they don't expire until December 2013.  Each book contains a variety of coupons as well as $5 coupon that you can apply to your entire purchase - so they pay for themselves in one trip to the store!  Here are some actual savings from recent trip to a neighborhood HyVee store:

$5 coupon off the entire bill = $5
6 additional coupons for items used everyday = $5
Spent $100 on groceries so gas was reduced by $.25 per gallon = $5.60 (22 gallons)

Total savings = $15.60

And there are many more coupons to use on the next trip!

Contact your favorite MDC dancer and buy enough books to last the year - its a great investment and a great organization to support.

SHOWCASE: A Shining Success

The atmosphere was electric and the dancers were shining as the MDC Dance Company received a standing ovation from their family and friends at the end of the 2012 Showcase.   And now the real work begins....   The Showcase judges provide feedback on each number regarding the choreography, the costumes and stage presence.   The reviews are shared with each dancer as they make the final preparations for the first competition at the end of February.  Be sure to congratulate the dancers on the success of the Showcase and wish them the best for their first competition, we are sure they will continue to be a shining success.

A 'JUMP'ing Good Time Was Had By All

The young ladies from Mindy's Dance Center Dance Company had an opportunity to attend the JUMP Dance Convention, January 6th-January 8th, 2012 and a 'JUMP'ing good time was had by all!  The JUMP Convention provides dance instruction from dancers known inside and outside of the dance community - include Melanie Moore, the 2011 winner of 'So You Think You Can Dance.'

For 3 days, the MDC Dance Company learned from the best in the categories of Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Ballet, Hip Hop and Jazz Funk.  The instruction included learning new dance steps, tips on improving technique and the importance of stage presence.  Alot of learning mixed with alot of fun.

Finally, taking a page from the world of the professional dancer, they each participated in an audition where they learned a short number to perform for a judge.  The performances continue through several round of elimination until a winner is chosen.  Our girls were shining stars and we would like to proudly announce that 4 dancers received classroom scholarships at JUMP this year; Mary Moritz, Larissa Mikle, Maggie Upp and Kas Scott.  These dancers were chosen by their teachers for an outstanding performance in that class.  Way to go girls!
